Ganpati Bappa Morya!!!

Ganeshotsav 2012

Ganapati Bappa is one of the most respected and loved God in Hindu families. North or South; East or West, he is worshipped everywhere. He is worshipped before any rituals or ceremonies. There are lot of mythological stories about this God; right from his birth, death and re-birth as an elepant God; Gajanan!

He is known as "remover of obstacles" (Vighneshwar). He is known as the one with one tusk (Ekdanta). He is referred to as the one with pot-belly (heramb, lambodar).

Lord Ganesha is a popular figure in Indian art. Representations of Ganesha show wide variations and distinct patterns changing over time. He may be portrayed standing, dancing, heroically taking action against demons, playing with his family as a boy, sitting down or on an elevated seat, or engaging in a range of contemporary situations.

Lord Ganesha is characterized with his favorite, the mouse and ladoos/modaks. He is further characterized by infinite stories and shlokas about him.

Ganpati is celebrated all across India; especially the state of Maharashtra for 10 days; from Ganesh Chaturthi till Anant Chaturdashi. Lokmanya Tilak transformed this annual Ganesha festival from private family celebrations into a grand public event. He did so "to bridge the gap between the Brahmins and the non-Brahmins and find an appropriate context in which to build a new grassroots unity between them" in his nationalistic strivings against the British

DVMMM would celebrate the festival as per yearly rituals.
